At Corpus Christi we believe that art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides a unique way of understanding and responding to the world through visual, tactile and sensory experiences. Pupils use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see, feel and think. At Corpus Christi, the pupils explore ideas and meanings in the work of artists, craftspeople and designers. Along with the help of a local artist, our art curriculum engages, inspires and challenges pupils and equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to enrich their whole lives. They learn about the diverse roles and functions of art and design in contemporary life, and in different times and cultures. Through art and design activities, our children learn to make informed value judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions, enabling them to become well rounded artists. These opportunities contribute to the development of the whole child emotionally, spiritually, cognitively and socially as well as providing access to other areas of the curriculum and help develop motor skills as well as language development. We believe at Corpus Christi that understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and the opportunity to develop their God given talents of the visual arts have the power to enrich our pupils’ lives.
